| | Give to the Latino PAC Did you know that the Latino Political Action Committee of Washington is the first people of color PAC formed in the State of Washington? In 2005, a small group of Latino leaders in our community formed the Latino PAC to address the disproportional representation of Latinos in important elected or appointed political positions at all levels of State and local government. This is still a critical need in our community, for example: - Did you know that only 14 Latinos currently hold an elected, political position in Washington State?
- Did you know that in Washington State not a single Latino holds a county-elected position?
- Did you know that only three Latinos serve in our State House of Representatives and only one in our State Senate?
- Did you know that only six Latinos hold an elected municipal position and only five Latinos hold elected positions on school boards across Washington State?
- Did you ever imagine that we would have to wait until November of 2007 to see the first Latina elected to a City Mayoral position?
You don’t have to imagine it because this is the political structure that 296,000 Latinos in Washington State are required to operate within on a daily basis. Now, we know that out of those 296,000 Latinos in Washington State, approximately 198,000 are U.S. citizens that are qualified to vote; but only 97,000 are registered to vote and only 64,000 actually vote! With your support we can work to inspire and encourage 198,000 Latinos to vote by giving them a reason to want to vote. We invite YOU to be a contributor to help in our fight to close the gap and meet the critical need of giving Latinos a progressive, political voice in Washington State—now is the time! Your contribution will help the Latino PAC fulfill its mission and purpose to advance the active participation of Washington State Latinos in the political process and to raise funds for Latino, public-office candidates whose efforts support laws and policies beneficial to the Latino community and who will represent the concerns and goals of Latinos in the State of Washington. While we will continue our work to identify progressive, Latino candidates in both Western and Eastern Washington, we all know that money plays a significant role in winning a campaign. Accordingly, a significant amount of the Latino PAC’s efforts will be dedicated to raising funds for our endorsed, progressive Latino candidates. But, to accomplish these goals, the Latino PAC requires the financial support of community supporters! With out the financial support of people like you it would be difficult to continue our work throughout the year to bolster politically progressive candidates who are supportive of our Latino communities and families. On behalf of the Latino PAC, we would like to thank you for your past support, whether financial or in-kind, and ask you to renew your support of the Latino PAC by making a contribution in any amount that is meaningful to you.
